Life Around The Map

Let's Go Travel

The majority of adults in the United States now have access to cell phones, so it is no surprise that products and services are now being tailored so that they can be accessed by the use of technology. One such technology-based service that is being designed by Dr. Mark McKenna is known as OVME. Dr. Mark McKenna learned early on while still attending medical school at Tulane University, that he would have to combine his business knowledge with his medical background in order to create services that would not only help him become successful but would change the face the of the cosmetic industry. Dr. Mark McKenna has proven that he is able to combine all of his expertise with the development of OVME.

Millions of Americans spend billions of dollars throughout the year on cosmetic services. The development of OVME is now giving even more patients access to cosmetic services. OVME is a website and app that allows patients to explore what aesthetic and wellness treatment options are available for them. Patients can connect with practitioners in their areas and can even complete a video consultation through the website or app. These services can then be scheduled at a time that is convenient for the patient and at a location that the consumer and the practitioner agree on. In some circumstances, the patient may even be able to have the aesthetic services completed in the comfortable setting of their own home.

The OVME platform that Dr. Mark McKenna has designed will benefit both doctors and patients alike. Doctors will have more chances to reach new customers and change their lives for the better and new consumers who otherwise would not be able to receive aesthetic services due to scheduling conflicts will be able to schedule services that are convenient for them. For everyone involved, OVME is a great resource for the aesthetic industry.

His medical degree was earned at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He entered his father’s practice while continuing to operate a real estate company he had founded while studying at Tulane, McKenna Venture Investments. Between Hurricane Katrina destroying many of his properties and observing the residential real estate market enter bubble territory, though, he decided to shut this company down and pursue medicine fulltime.

In November 2007, Dr. Mark McKenna relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in part because his girlfriend had moved there.

Dr. Mark McKenna is married and they have a child as well as a pet dog. He has said that he loves to read books and does so whenever his schedule permits. He regards books as having tons of knowledge that is just waiting to be released in any type of subject imaginable. Dr. Walden was born in Austin, Texas on November 17th in the year of 1971. The medical field was not something new to her because she was the daughter of a dentist and her mother was a surgical nurse. Dr. Walden attended and graduated from Anderson High School, she then turned right around and earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Texas. Even though that is pretty impressive within itself, Dr. Walden kept striving for more.

Soon after she earned her MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch. Once this was accomplished she obtained a fellowship in aesthetic surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. It is reported that she stayed there until her fellowship ended.

Even though one would find all of these credentials impressive, Dr. Walden didn’t stop there; as of 2014 she opened a satellite office located in Marble Falls, Texas. All of her hard work and dedication does not go un-noticed because she was recognized as one of the “Best Plastic Surgeons in America” by the American way magazine. Even though Dr. Walden is a very busy woman she still finds time to author and co-author articles and peer revised papers. Such as; Contemporary decision making and perception in patients undergoing cosmetic breast augmentation, published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal back in 2010. Another one she had a hand in was the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2007, this was a topic discussion that she participated in. If interested you can find more of her work elsewhere.

About Life Line Screening:

Yafang Li, PhD. led a Dartmouth research team in a study on the role gene-smoking interactions play in the etiology of lung cancer. The study which was published in Carcinogenesis identified three new lung cancer genetic biomarkers. The study revealed three SNP’s(single nucleotide polymorphisms) in DNA that form the foundation of our susceptibility to developing cancer. Two of the SNP’s were for the risk of non-small cell lung cancer, and the other was for the risk of squamous cell lung cancer.

These three SNP’s the study identified provided potential candidate biomarkers for lung cancer risk screening and intervention. The team’s findings were limited to the smoking behavior and non-small cell lung cancer risk in the Caucasian population. Because of this restriction, the results are not applicable to other ethnicities, but suggest a breakthrough in the treatment of lung cancer is on the horizon.

The breakthrough that these results make in cancer research is good news for all who long for a cure. Eric Lefkofsky like so many others believes that a cure for cancer can be found if the way we diagnose and treat the disease change. Lefkofsky has donated millions of dollars towards cancer research. In 2006 he and his wife established the Lefkofsky Family Foundation. This foundation is a private charitable foundation that uses high-impact initiatives to enhance the lives close to their community in Chicago. The foundation provides funding for education, healthcare, medical research, and arts and culture.

Mr. Lefkofsky is an American entrepreneur who wears many hats. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he is an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago; he is the co-founder and CEO of TEMPUS; the co-founder of Echo Global Logistics; and he is involved on a corporate level with Inner Workings, Mediacean, and Uptake.. It is his work with Tempus, however, that will benefit most from the findings of Dr. Li’s study.

Tempus is a health tech company that’s “building the infrastructure to modernize cancer treatment.” Tempus collects and analyzes genomic data to uncover ways that will enable physicians to provide more precise and personalized treatments for their patients. The data driven treatment decisions used by Tempus analyzes “a patient’s genetic code in the context of molecular therapies” seems a good fit for the Dartmouth’s study groups findings. Tempus believes that their efforts will propel the next advancement in healthcare. We all stand on the shoulders of men like Lefkofsky as we wait for it.

Through investments by others to the tune of some $30 million and $135 million, Groupon had a valuation of 1.35 billion in August of 2010. According to Forbes, Groupon was then the most rapidly growing company in history.

In February of 2010, Lefkofsky and a partner formed Lightbank, a venture capital company designed to further development of companies in the Chicago, Illinois area.

Lifeline Screening is a medical screening and testing company that offers various diagnostic tests at a fraction of the cost of what would be charged at a hospital or a medical testing facility. We all go through life with various aches and pains, but if something is really a possible problem you should have it checked.

With Lifeline screening you can make a simple appointment, have a screening done and have the results forwarded on to your doctor. These screenings and tests are the same as those that are available in hospitals and medical testing facilities, yet they are less expensive and are able to be given in a more timely fashion.

Screening tests include ultrasound, finger-stick blood tests, and a limited EKG. Ultrasound has the ability to “see” through the skin into the body cavity to get a live view of a person’s vital organs. For example it is possible to see the flow of blood and any indication of potential blockage. Ultrasound can also detect bone density which measures the propensity for osteoporosis.

Tests include a look at the carotid arteries in the neck, the abdominal arteries and the brachial arteries, all testing for any blockage. The Finger-Stick blood test only takes a few drops of blood which can be turned into a full lipid blood panel. This shows the cholesterol levels, such as the HDL and LDL (good and bad cholesterol) so appropriate action can be taken to regulate those levels. Also levels of liver enzymes can be detected to see if there is any liver disease.

A limited EKG can detect atrial fibrillation, or Afib which is an irregular heartbeat. This can cause blood clots that can lead to stroke. All of these test results once completed, can be made readily available to person’s personal doctor.

Getting ready for these screenings is easy and very simple. If you are going to have a blood test, various stages of fasting may apply. Ladies should wear comfortable and loose clothing, preferably slacks and a loose blouse. Gentlemen should wear comfortable trousers and a sports shirt. Screenings may involve lifting up the front of the top, but at no time will a person ever be asked to disrobe.
