Founded in 1993, Open Society Foundation is one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the world. It was founded by the legendary George Soros 24 years ago. He has a firm belief that what is imperfect can be improved, and this motivated him to improve society across the globe through philanthropic work. Soros is recognized for his great success as a hedge fund manager, a career that saw him accumulate financial resources that would help him start the organization. Through Open Society, George Soros is estimated to have donated over $12 billion. His funding has mostly supported groups and individuals across the globe fighting for freedom of expression, transparency, responsible government, and societies that promote justice and equality. Recently, George Soros donated at least $33 million within one year to any group that emboldened activists. This included the Ferguson Movements that hoped to spur civil action. His financial support to this groups is impeccable, for instance, it gave to rise of a combustible movements, which was significant to the extent that it changed a one-day activity in Missouri into a 24- hour-a-day national cause celebrate. The estimated annual expenditures of the Foundations are approximated to be $827 million. The organization was ranked as the second largest private philanthropy budget in the United States. The biggest stake of the expenditure is mostly channeled to defend human rights including the rights of women, drug users, sex workers, and the LGBTQ communities.

About George Soros

George Soros was born in Hungary in 1930. He lived through the Nazi regime of 1944 to 1945, which resulted in the killing of over half a million Hungarians Jews. His own Jewish family was able to survive after they successfully secured false identity papers. They also helped other Jews to conceal their backgrounds to avoid being killed. In 1947, he left Hungary for London where he worked as a part-time porter and as a nightclub waiter. While working, he still attended school at the London School of Economics and later migrated to the United States in 1956. This is where he joined the world of finance and investments.
